Do New Topics lead to New Opinions?

I grew up in the small town of Pendleton where the craziest thing we saw or heard about was a robbery of a gas station (where the robbers were not armed). When I got to college I knew that not only would I begin to meet new and different types of people but also I would learn about new viewpoints and topics. I have only been in college for about a week but in that time I have met more diverse people than I ever did in my small town. My classes have showed me people's viewpoints and the viewpoints of professionals in different fields. I believe that just being around people who are from different towns and different backgrounds influence me. I encourage everyone who goes to college to come into the experience with a great attitude and be prepared to have a complete change of opinions. Not only do the people at college influence you but also classes are now designed to make you think about your personal ideals and values. My social media class has opened my eyes to a whole new way of thinking about social network. Before I came here I took the use of the Internet for granted but now that I know the history and how people are against user-generated content it makes me cherish the freedom I have. Our generation has always taken our freedom for granted and this new way of thinking in our social media class makes me think that about how lucky of a generation we are. College has really made me appreciate what I have and when you come here I’m sure you will realize it too. College is a way to broaden your horizons and to gain your own viewpoints and make your own decisions.
